Open position at the Language Centre: English University Teacher, commencing 1 August 2012

An English teacher (native or non-native) is required by the University of Turku Language Centre. The teaching is mostly in the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, but also includes more general teaching including academic writing and communication skills. In addition, the teacher will be responsible for the development of teaching and materials, administrative tasks related to the teaching and participating in the development of the Language Centre.

The ideal candidate must have a Master's degree in a subject related to English language teaching, a high level of teaching ability and speak English to a native-speaker standard.

Additionally, we are looking for a person with experience of university-level LSP teaching, an appropriate teaching qualification and the ability to create their own LSP materials. They should be experienced in teaching in a variety of learning environments, both classroom and virtual. They should also be willing and ready to take an active part in the working community and in the development of our Language Centre. Experience of teaching medical English and academic writing skills and an interest in applied linguistic research is desirable.

 The salary is defined by the university salary system for teachers/researchers, demand level 4-6. In addition, there is a work performance level which is determined on the job and can be max. 46,3% of the demand level salary. The position is subject to a four month trial period.
